With a record number of executive orders, from energy to immigration, the first month of President Joe Biden’s administration has been nothing short of eventful.
In his first weeks in office, President Biden has moved to revoke a number of the Trump administration’s policies and made sweeping measures to ramp up the nation’s COVID-19 response. Biden has also ordered significant changes to environmental and immigration policies. But what does it mean for Texas?
A week before Biden’s inauguration, the U.S. House voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for the second time. U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, voted in favor of impeachment while U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, opposed it, saying he strongly condemned Trump’s behavior but worried the House was moving too fast.
Join The Texas Tribune Feb. 24 at noon Central for a conversation with Veasey and McCaul, moderated by Tribune Washington Bureau Chief Abby Livingston. They’ll discuss impeachment and how the policy priorities and actions taken by the Biden Administration will impact Texas.
Veasey, D-Fort Worth, has represented Texas’ 33rd Congressional District since 2013. He serves as a member of the Energy and Commerce and House Armed Services committees. He is the Republican leader of the Foreign Affairs Committee and serves as a member of the Homeland Security Committee. Previously, McCaul was chief of counterterrorism and national security in the U.S. attorney's office, Western District of Texas. He also served as the state’s deputy attorney general from 1998 to 2002, under current U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.
